José Juan Estrada Hernández was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, and arrived in the U.S. when he was 17 years old. In Mexico, he studied accounting at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas and then finished his undergraduate studies in business administration and finance at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. After his undergraduate studies, José Juan studied a Master’s Degree in Finance and International Marketing also at DePaul University. Bringing together several Zacatecan professionals living in Chicago, José Juan created the Club de Profesionistas de Zacatecas dedicated to offer their finance expertise to assist people and communities in several educational and non-profit projects in Zacatecas. Starting as a volunteer, José Juan Estrada became president of the Federación de Clubes Zacatecanos de Illinois (FECUZI) contributing with its mission of promoting the social development, culture, traditions, customs, and education of new generations of Zacatecanos. At the time of the interview, he was working as a supervisor in the Department of Finances for the transnational company Gategourmet in Chicago, Illinois. Later that year, José Juan Estrada Hernández was appointed by Zacatecas governor Alejandro Tello Cristerna (2016-2021) to serve as the Secretary of the Zacatecan Migrant and returned to Zacatecas to serve in that position.
