In this passage, we hear a story relating to the time change in Daylight Savings Time. Everyone knows that this is done because of the earths rotation, but it can have a much greater effect. A farm girl noticed that by moving the clock an hour ahead, more work was done by them men. She cleverly thought of moving it ahead a whole other hour to increase the labor of the men. She nearly doubled if, which doubled the amount of time the men would spend in the field doing all the work. This was a somewhat placebo affect, as the men did not know and were unaware of their hard work. Time flies when you are working, and these men quickly took a notice of what was happening. Later on, lawyers are brought into the picture, which allow us to get a sense of how they were seen as. With laws that the average could not understand, they had a vantage point, and were using it. They hope for new modern laws, not "antique", was stated in the passage. As the world moves on, there is a need for modernism. How can there be understanding in society, when the laws are not understandable?
