To his Excellency David B. Mitchell

Sir,

You are hereby with the approbation of the President of the United States, appointed Indian agent to the Creek nation of Indians. In discharging the duties of this appointment, you will be governed by the instructions that were heretofore forwarded to your predecessor in office, and such others as you may from time to time, receive from this department. Your compensation will be at the rate of two thousand dollars per annum, and twelve rations per day.

Given under my hand and the seal of the War Office, this twenty seventh day of January, eighteen hundred and seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States, the forty first.
