again found & followed the trail - which led northward toward the Stanton Reservation but was unable to come up with the Indians again. He is encamped to-night at the mouth of Black River - Where we expect to Encamp to-morrow under all the circumstance Esterly did very well - & had it bot been for the dust storm & night setting in so near after he came up with the Indians - he would no doubt have killed or captured the most of the party. We gave the two Mexicans a good square meal & rations enough to take them to Pecos Falls where they started from with Lieut Esterly. I now expect to stop over one day at Black River to rest the Command & give all a chance to bathe - clean up wash
