Lieut Woodward & Orleman are ordered before the Retiring Board. I recommended that Orleman be so ordered - but never made any recommendation for Woodward to be so ordered -- and I presume that the matter was brought about by Gen. Ord.

The Recorder of the Retiring Board, unclear this City - the Board that Woodward is ordered before - introduced himself to me to-day at the Court room. He is an old friend of Woodward's - Paducah KY being his home also - He informed me that he understood from Woodward that the latter did not want to be retired.

I told the Recorder much to his surprise that i did not make any such recommendation in Woodward's case.
