76 Chapter 9 [:] last council April 11, 1873. Canby and Dr. Thomas killed Col Meacham saved by Toby Riddle although badly wounded. L S Dyar and Frank Riddle made their escape. Toby Riddle struck down by Boncho. Rock Indian. April 9th the commissioners sent Toby Riddle to Cape Jacks strong hole with a message. stateing they wished to hold council with Jack and five of his men unarmd. the writer went long with his mother Toby Riddle that day. Toby after haveing an understanding with the chief about the time they should look for the Indians at the peace tent Visited the diffrent caves untill late in the evening when Toby and the writer had gone about half a mile on the trail Weium steped from behind a big rock in front of Tobys horse. he held his hand up. he walked up to Tobys horse laid his hand on the horses maine and said in a low voice. Cousin Tobey. tell them peace makers not to meet these Indians in council anymore. they will be killed Just then another old like Indians steped up with his gun across the hollow of his left arm. he said Weir what are you telling Tobey.
