not one that I asked to sit for me for a portrait would do so. They said they did not want any pictures made of them and some of the Indians were very rude to me especially one old woman, she spake good English and was a hard working woman made fine baskets and she was putting up cherries in glass jars while I was in her house. She told me none of the Indians would sit for me, so I called on an old man and he went for me worse than the old woman. I gave him a good talking too and told him he talked foolish etc. I left them and came to my room and got my ? book which has in it lots of portraits of different Indians and took it
