Mr. Benjamin D. Hitz. -2- September 9, 1945
I wonder if a letter to Knopf would elicit exact information on the reprint permissions granted to various anthologies fir the use of Miss Cather’s work.
Luck to your further searches for Willa Cather material. She is a writer who has won a secure place in our literature. What Sinclair Lewis generously said of her work in his Nobel Peace acceptance address (1930, was it?) is fully warranted. Her books have a greater security in reputation because they are wonderfully good as providing significant, vivid glimpses of America’s history.
