My Dear Sister,

   Your letter of Sept 21st came to hand a day or two ago.   Previous to that I received a letter from Father, the date of which I do not remember.  The latter was received 2 weeks ago Sabbath morning while on the battlefield, with our guns unlimbered and expecting every moment to commence firing, and of course after a hasty reading was destroyed. It is a long time since I have written what might be termed a letter home not since we left Bridgepont although a few letters from me would doubtlefs have helped
