Murfreesboro April 27th, 1863

Dear Father,

     It is now about a week since I have written home as we have been out on a 5 day scout, and have had no chance either to send or receive letters.   When I returned however to camp I found Sergeant Adams back and with him a couple of letters and a small package for me. 
     You may think the letters were very acceptable when you consider that it was the first I had heard from home for nearly 4 weeks.  (aint it a shame they cannot write more often)

We left camp taking with us every thing but our tents last Tuesday noon, and camped that night about a mile beyond
