This we considered our first grand retreat advance but we were only allowed to spend the Sabbath there and were ordered to move on Monday morning at 3 o'clock. We marched back to our old camp which we had left on Saturday morning, the centre section which had been separated from us, joining us about midway. We pitched tents and remained there till 4 o'clock next morning when we marched [illegible] Louisville and encamped on the southern border of the city. We arrived there about 6 o'clock a.m. and immediately planted our battery beyond the trenches which have been dug on the southern border of Louisville.
