I arrived here after a long but pleasant voyage I suppose I need not tell you that I was sea sick terribly so. So much so that I had to keep my berth the greater portion of the time but I think you can better imagine than I can describe I am now staying at a place called Rio Janeiro on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. All the large cities are along the coast Brazil include the entire table land of Brazil and nearly all of the Forest of the Amazon it is therefore richer in vegetation than any other part of South America the Mountains of the interior contain mines of gold and diamonds with iron an other kinds of metal the larger part of the coffee and and diamonds produced in the world comes from the above named place Rio Janeiro the capital of Brazil is largest city of South America it is nearly o[f?] half the size of the city of New York in North A[m]erica Rio Janeiro has a lovely harbour So large and beautiful and is the principal place of export for coffee and diamo[nds] Oh Adelaide I wish you were here it pays for all the tediousness of the voyage it so beautiful tell you[r] Mama houdie for me I wish I were an Artist so t[hat]
