Your very kind letter of the 25th of jany is received. You can not imagine how much pleasure letters from Home do me.and I watch every mail with unceasing vigilance. we are not off for Vicksburg yet but may go any day there is none of us that crave the duties that we shall be called upon to preform and yet I think there is none of Genl McPhersons Staff but what has a desire to be there. There is none of them that have not been in several Engagements, have no fears for me if anything happens I will telegraph and shall write as soon as possible after a battle. Possible there may be no battle for six weeks we expected a desperate fight at Corith but it was evacuated who knows but this
