I wish to ask one question for the
consideration of every temperance man present. which I think appropriate to the occasion Think upon it. There are in this place 3 different ^temperance societies the Washingtonian, an 2 others. The Washintonians for near 3 years until quite recently have held weakly meetings in the old Academy. The beneficial results flowing from those meetings are seen all around us. This great corrupting plague which in years past has been such a curse to our place has partly arrested in its course. Several confirmed drunkards have been reformed and sustained and cheered in keeping their good resolutions. Many youth have been preserved from forming intemperate habits. The time expended in those meetings has been lost on none of us.
