Shelbyville pike on which one regiment has been on picket three times in the last two weeks, coming in yesterday morning the last time; nothing happened of note. There was another line of pickets two or three miles in advance of us, they and the rebels being within talking distance. We had orders a week ago to pack our extra clothing, etc. in barrels, for storage or transportation, our baggage on march being limited to 2 prs. drawers, socks, 2 shirts, (including what we have on) blouse, hat and shoes; in [pursuance?] of this order we packed our over and dress coats retaining a rubber and a woolen and rubber blanket, and Shelter tent, [haver?] socks and canteens
