After leaving C. a couple of miles behind, we had to ascend a grade of 200 feet in a mile; the engine got "set" twice in making the ascent and all the ablest had to get off and help start the train. On reaching the top of this ascent we passed through tunnel, cut in solid rock, about a mile long, which was three or four years building. After passing through this the road for some miles wound along the sides of the rocky hills,
