very bad, out of 550 men in the 97th reported here, there are scarsely 200 fit for duty, there is not nearly as much sickness or dissatisfaction in the old Rem's. as in the new. Dr. Davis arived here yesterday direct from home, he brought letters for most of the boys and nothing for me. Levi is now Act. Agt. All three of those men are liked by everybody. Lt. Lewis is said to be sick with rheumatism I have not seen him for more than a week, he has done no duty since we left Memphis. The Summerfield boys are as well as usual. Give my respects to Mr. Clark, J. Howard and all other enquireing friends. Write often for letters here do one as much good as grub. With lots of love, I remain etc., etc., Brother, Carlie
