Lt. Howard has returned to the Reg. from the Pioneer Corps. He was under arrest for several days for carlessness as an Officer when on picket. He was found asleep and his men with their accoutriments all off, by the Officer of the day. He has had a trial, but as to the result I can not find out, one thing is certain he does not [illegible] of the company any more. You ask the duties of the Pioneer Corps, it is nearly the same as the Sappers & Miners, the former do all the heavey work such as grubbing stumps, chopping timber, makeing quorderoy roads etc., etc., while the latter are mechanecs and have more pay and not as much hard work.
