suffering - having been delirious for some hours his face was much swollen and inflamed and his eyes closed for several days - he was embalmed so we had no trouble tho the weagther has been so warnm and we were delayed a whole day at Parkersburg - he was buried yesterdsay from the old home. Maddy has it in fine order and there hung my brother's portrait. it's not good - but I can recognize it - there he died & Father & Mother & Margaret - he desired a brief funeral, no show nothing in Washington - except the heat and delay, both of which were tolerable - we have had a pleasant trip - Sarah is very unwell, nervous & worn out but she spends most of her time in bed Mr & Mrs Goddard are very pleasant, kind peiple, Ronny & [unclear] like children of their age, full of play so we have had as pleasant a time as could be expected - the Goddards & McCoomb left here this morning. I did not wish to travel on Sunday and Sarah was very willing to rest so we expect to leave tomorrow and reach home wednesday. I told Pa I did not care about coming all the way or I was going to Pittsburg in straw -
