I do not study anything but Arithmetic and Grammar. I hated to stop Algebra, but [illegible] thought me did not understand "Extracting the [illegible] Root" well enough to go any farther. We are getting along well in Arithmetic and Grammar, are most through the latter. School will be out in three weeks and I think we shall get through the Arithmetic too. I did not answer the letter you wrote before the last. I sent it up to Areli to answer, but her finger has been so sore that she could not do anything. I thought she had answered it and that is the reason that I did not write before this. It is time to make the fire for supper, so I must stop. - Now that I've got through with supper I will try and write some more. Mr. and Mrs. Putnam inquired of you and Mr. Putnam especially in regard to your health. They hear from Julia every week and sometimes twice a week. She is well and enjoys herself much where she is. Lottie and Gus Curtis went down to Cincinnati before this freeze and have not or cannot get home yet. She took the youngest with her, and left the other two at home with the hired girl. I think she must be crazy to do such a thing as that. The letter before the last that you wrote you dated it 1853. gone back have you? It is nice weather now the ground is nearly ice. Two years ago the 22nd of this month or dear sister Jossie was with us. anticipating all the pleasures that this life affords us for it was her wedding day. but she is not with us now. I have thought of her so much today and yesterday. all the sisters and friends came down from Marietta to see us, but there is no Jossie to come with them. I do miss her so much more in the winter than any other time. We must think of her often.
