La Fayette Oct 4th 1855 Brother Nathan

                               I have been in La Fayette the past ten Day & I have Brot my family With me Situated as I am do not see how I can possibly get up my house this fall & to Keep my family out there this Winter. I do not think it Would be right. We feel as though perhaps we might have had Eddy with us if we had remained in Town untill we had got our house up. When I think of it Seems almost Awful to think I can never more see him in this world again. I have never had any thing in this life to affect me so the poor Boy so hard for us to take him to Town & we did not. I  am going to all I can to get my home safe as soon as possible & all You can help me will be safe & if You should need it. When I have not got it I would sell my team to raise it the some?   Hundred Dollars. You said I could have. I need very much & You can send it by Pony Express co. or send me a draft Write me in future at La Fayette & please write as often as You feel like it for it Give Me much pleasure to hear from You. We have nearly all of as had the ague but are now getting Better
