LaFayette Feb 2nd 1852 Dear Brother Nathan I rec'd Yours of Jan 16 the after noon I was up street buying A Horse of a man that owed me and went into Postoffice found You it may have lain there some day perhaps, last month I Recd a letter from Mother And Intended to have matter to Immediately but Marshall was taken sick bad cold and we did not Know but it might be Scarlet fever and waited untill he was better bit it was nothing more than a bad cold If in the Providence of God She should be called away before this reaches You I can hardly forgive myself for not meeting her immediately on Recpt of hers we, that is Sarah Edgar Lydia Jane & George have all been very sick this fall. Edgar Lay fourteen week with Scarlet fever & Relaps and Eight of them we were Expecting him from day to day to leave us as he has not been out doors Yet but as getting very smart now and all of us at this time Enjoy good health. My health was never better than it has been the Whole Season the ague I think will not Trouble is much more In future I have done much better In Business than I Expected I have #1,000 in Notes & a/c that is good & #200 Bad & doubtful
