     I have been trying to-day to look up some old matter on the books but I am feeling so nervous that it seems to me as if I could not possibly work at these things any longer.  I have just been out to walk, but, I do not feel as if I could apply myself to my task & I have concluded to spend a few minutes writing to you.  I wish I could have you with me but I suppose I must contend myself for the present without you.
