after he had harvested what he thought would pay, there was a field of some wheat & some weeds He wanted the weeds mowed & had the field cut over - one day he told me I might have what I could pick up So the boys & I went at it picking up with our hands little by little & was at it parts of several days but we got 27 shock or 27 dozen good larger bundles nice fall wheat & may be there will be 10 bushels. Our garden did well & we've had all the garden stuff we could use - Lots of tomatoes are now wasting. The potatoes first planted will do pretty well & will make perhaps 20 or 25 bushels - The 1/2 acre of potatoes I planted later will not do much I'm afraid too dry - The leaves in corn fields are all dried in many places from the ground high as my head & in one place to the top -

[written along the left-hand side of the page] We financed most of our ground last spring and thought of

[written along the right-hand side of the page] building a new small frame house but found we would not be able to do it - We are thinking of building on a room on the south side

[written along the top of the page] I shall do what I can myself - Write often as you can I love to get letters Goodby Charles
