Beloved brother
Necessity compels me to sit down and write to you that Father wishes for you to come home very much. Dear brother Father is almost gone. I do not much expect that he will live for you to get home but he may. He has altered very much since you left him. The countenance and whole appearance seemed to change Monday. He did not raise much of anything from 10 o'clock in the morning until evening and has been growing worse since. He does not feed himself (does not eat but a trifle of anything) and I might say does not help himself at all. His left limb has swelled to the body. We did not think Wednesday that he would live through the night
