May 5 1967 Dear Mr. Conroy;

    Thank you for taking the trouble to encourage me.  I really am not trying to be a writer as I do not have much education.
    I never wrote a line until I was over sixty years old and I was driven to it because I think what I have learned from a long and troubled life needs to be said.  I think it [underlined:  has]] been said in a high brow way but my low brow way of saying it might be read by the ones who need it most
    Anyway I am going to keep on trying as long as I can
    My "neice-in-law" [sic]  Jane Weber does what she can to help me
