Dear Jack,

I came across the enclosed article from

The New York Times, which I had saved for you but somehow put away. You'll find it in- teresting, I believe, and will enjoy the ref- erence to you. I'd like to know what you think of the reasoning. You deserve to be here!

A few months back I wrote you inquiring whether

you thought I might have a chance at being considered for the honorary degree by one of the small schools of the Midwest. As I wrote you, I rejected one such offer, as it was a mail order affair.

If you think I have a chance - this would help me

immeasurably in my work at the School - do let me have word. Is there any way of suggesting people? You might remember that I used this method in recommending you for inclusion in Who's Who in America.underlined And it worked!! Is there any similar possibility in the academic field? Do you know anyone who might give me information - or help? I'd appre- ciate immensely your dropping me a line about this - and putting in a word, if you can.

I hope all goes well - my best to Gladys. Affectionately,
                                                                  Martin
