Christmas card inside with verseWishing You Peace, Health and Happiness 3/4 way down page with letter around it

Lincoln's Birthday, 1988. Der Jack -

This is a Christmas greeting, quite late. Perhaps it can also

be a Valentine! image of heart

Today is a good one not to be in New England. A foot

of new snow -- and it came fast -- from 5 AM to 11 AM. Now it's turned to drizzle and sleet.

Another year has gotten away. Not much accomplished

this time. Still speaking around the country, but much less than in '85 or '86. Down from about 100 a year to about 25.

The Disinheritedunderlined is still a mainstay in my American

history courses. Scores of my students (actually, hundreds) have shared all those experiences with you. You are on a reading list this semester with Edward Bellamy, Booker T. Washington, and Ray Bradbury -- a potent lineup.

Our first natural grandchild was born in Minneapolis

in January. To our son Jim and his Irish Norah. The baby is Katie. They already had a sweet four-year-old named Tom whom they adopted.

Chicken (I call her Eagle now, when I remember)

sends love. She & I are off to our first visit to Israel, from Feb. 26-Mar.6.

Friends in KC sent us a fine feature story on you (with a fine photo of you) that was in the KC Starunderlined on Sept. 27, 1987. It is so good that you continue to receive the recognition that is so rightfully yours.

                                            Love, Dave & Midge
