Jan 5, 1976 Dear Jack, It was so good to hear from you. It makes me wonder how our correspondence stopped. Which of us slipped or was it the mail service aggrivated [sic] by our travels. To Europe, Africa, Australia, England, the Continent and much here. I'm professor emeritus which means I can teach but have no vote and, praise be, no committees. In my course on the Thirties, underlined: The Disinherited was liked most by the good students (underlined: USA and underlined: Grapes of Wrath and underlined: The People, Yes, were among the competition. We're both very sorry about your daughter, glad you have so much coming out and come out. I'm doing a book on C. P. Snow, going to Texas a week from now to work on it with Lucille (Snow's ms. there. Where are yours?) I'm sending you my second book which got little attention because of poor promotion. As always, H. I see that spirits are lowered. Your work?
