My daughter Jane is now an editorial supervisor at Encyclopedia Brittanica with thirty researchers under her -- hence "my daughter the executive". My older daughter Barbara is expecting her first child on or around August 22nd and I will then join the ranks of grandfathers.
Life in Chicago continues to be most exciting. Wish you were here. Had dinner with Studs and Ida last Saturday evening. Studs has started a new book based on people and their jobs. He has discovered a marvelous man named Mayhew (friend of Dickens) who was doing the same type of thing Studs is doing in London early in the nineteenth century. You probably know of him if I know you.
I hope this finds you hard at work in the midst of writing your memoirs.
At the present time my plan is to get away from Chicago winters and spend three moths each year in Mexico. I don't know if you heard but last October I was struck by an Avis Rent-a-Car (They're Number two -- the [sic] hit harder) while talking to a friend across the street from my apartment. My skull was fractured and my knee torn apart. I spent a month in hospital and was in cast with crutches for another two crossed out: moths months. But I'm feeling fine again and except for a limp I'm ready for bear.
