Dec 17, 1966 Dear Po' old Jack

Forgive this mannic [sic] pen -- it does not do Justice to the delicacy of my thoughts toward you.
Your wonderful letter already has an honored place among my treasured conroy archives. The news about your memoirs is great. I hereby demand no less than a chapter! (now this pen works fine.)
Know that I am still one of your ardent deciples [sic]. No less than two days ago I suggested you to Ralph Newman as editor for the revived "Illinois Intelligencer" -- circa 1815-1830, -- the official organ of the Sesquicentennial Commission. Ralph liked your doing it but was unwilling to take the responsibility for your making the move. You would have to live in Chicago. Don't despair -- there will be other opportunitys [sic] for lucrative employment and old "Eagle Eye" Stracke is ever on the alert!
