Mr. Jack Conroy 701 Fisk Avenue Moberly, Missouri, 65270

Dear Mr. Conroy,

Again, I'm returning to your memories. First, how are you doing? or as the old man said, "How is life serving you?" Fine, I hope.
Have those memoirs been published yet? I recall a few years back you began publishing excerpts from your autobiography in some midwestern literary journal.
Presently, I'm examining the works of Katherine Dunham as an anthropologist. did you ever meet or know her or can one assume that your knowledge of her is through legend and folktales? Can you tell me who followed Dunham as Group Leader of cult studies in the Chicago WPA Project? Who else was in that group? How long did you study the cults? Did it include the Moorish-Americans (led by the Noble Drew Ali) and the Nation of Islam (commonly called, "Black Muslims" - led by Honorable Elijah Muhammed? In addition to the materials include in underlined: They Seek A City, did you or Arna or other members of the project publish an article or articles on the cults in Chicago?
I saw mention of a Japanese graduate student and Katherine Dunham publishing an article during the 1930's or 40's. A check of the scientific literature does not reveal such a publication. Did you or Arna come across it in your research for the book? Did you ever see a copy of Dunham's paper on "The Occurance of Cults Among "Deprived' Peoples." ?
Finally what happened the manuscripts, ?memorsh....? photographs and tapes done on the cults? Where are they deposited? Do you know of any in private collections?
Would appreciate your earliest possible response. Enclosed is a recent article I did on Paul Robeson.

Sincerely, James G. Spady
