letterhead HOURS BY APPOINTMENT TELEPHONE KENWOOD 3264 DR. MAX SHURE CHIROPODIST FOOT SPECIALIST 3456 COTTAGE GROVE AVENUE CHICAGO 16 ILLINOIS

Mar. 2, 1948 Dear Jack: -

Perhaps you don't remember me. I was on the Writers' Project back in what now seem to me, the good old days. You might remember that you spoke at some literary meeting that my wife was interested at that time.
You will notice that I am now in a field far removed from literature. I have curbed my desire for writing and am chasing the lousy dollar - just like so many others. Nevertheless, I have gone out into the colored community where I feel I can do my little for a people I admire (and make a living too, you should understand). After living all my life as a so called superior white man, I have now come among real humans and am happy.
No doubt you will ask yourself what is my purpose in writing to you. There is no purpose except that I spoke to a lawyer who shares offices with me and he said he knows you. His name is Mr. Marx. I just thought I'd write to you.
I have been following your career and book reviews with interest, so let's say this is a fan letter.
If you have any foot trouble come on out here and I'll give you a treatment on the house, and then we'll chew our Project days.

Sincerely yours, Max Shure, D.S.C.
