camps in the Far West. It began producing silver in the 1860s , reached its heyday about 1890. and had a bit of a revival in the 1930s when FDR put the US on silver coinage again. Much of it has burned, but many buildings still remain, including a theater and the old Miners' Union hall. Bodie is now a state monument. North Lake is about 9000 ft high, right above Bishop. We used to go there to start back-packing vacations when our daughters were 8 & 11.
