July 23, 1969 Dear Jack,

I'm certainly not the best correspondent in this world, but, I do come out of the woodwork from time to time. From time to time I hear of you through Dane Perry, who shows up in Kansas City from time to time.
Are you still interested in holding forth on "Fiction and the Future of America", "The Proleterian writer and Tomorrow", and "Proletarian Literature and Tomorrow"? I give you these titles mostly by way of giving you a free rein on your talk or discussion. In other words, take the problem "The Future of America" and relate it to your life and love. I know the result will be good.
August 20th would be a good day for your talk. If you can't make it then, you might indicate other dates. We can work the schedule around your time demands and problems.
Of course, if you come down for the full two weeks, there'll be no problem! How about it?

Sincerely yours,

handwritten addition at end of typed letter The entire schedule will have to be changed or rearranged. Pick any time, giving a two or three day Leeway if possible.

Hope you can make it down. If you want you may be able to ride with someone. Rick Catlett intends to attend over weekends.
You can reach me by this phone number: 753-8243. Just tell the gal when you can come.
