in pencil in upper right margin: Rogers, John C. Jack oboy oboy oh:

Had a bedraggled note from Judy Rayford, to the extent that he had LOST my address and had to phone long distance to you in order to get same? I don't know whether he was angling for some money or not - if so, I did NOT deliver. He seems the same, if a bit more so - complaining about losing his sex life, et cetera. But he says he has no pain, only a great inertia, which infects me also, in spite of being driven some hundred or so miles by a comely maiden, did I send you a card from my daughter's post in the hills? Aye gawd I meant too. [sic] It was a great effort, on my part at least, and I appreciate all that went into accomplishing it - the long ride, et cetera. The getting lost, and having us set straight by a man with a shotgun - out hunting rabbits no doubt? Or people? Or things?
It was good to be back in the SW Va. hills for a change - to eat milkweed pods - my first time, and they were good. And to play with the dogs - David and Luka, and the cat, Cerras - it was good and too soon over,
