in pencil in top margin Rogers, John C. Jack oboy oboy:

Wrote to Judy, promptly at your suggestion. Didn't hear nothin' - poor fellow, I'm afraid something serious has happened - he was always a happy-go-lucky cheerful sort of fellow - can't imagine him with something like CANCER to plague him. Called the last phone number I had - no answer. 205-438-4805 -- got him one time at that number. Judy and Murrell Edmunds - Edmunds wrote me that he seldom goes out - sits in his room and contemplates I suppose, like an ancient ?stoic?. I couldn't figure out his last book, underlined: Reservoir - not the ending no way - no way. Guess old Murrell was trying to tell us SOMETHING, but it somehow failed. Murrell has a lot on the ball - I'm sorry for him the book did not come across stronger. You can see the same thing in Alexandria - only the black-white couples go about it quite openly - with what results I am afraid to guess.
How's the wife. Better I hope.
How am I? Just hanging in there.
Yep, the ole FOOLKILLER got a big staff, but not much git up and go. A good magazine tho', once hit gits out.

Yrs, Jack II
