[[pencil in top margin: Rogers, John C. [1971] ]] Jack oboy oboy:
Just made a trek down town - not much money and most places closed up - went into "Buddy's place" for a couple of brews, all the money I had. Asked if Mr. Via had been in - he being in once while I was there - but it seems Mr. Via (George it seems) has a hangover and was absent. One colored guy was present - they called him Shorty and Mr. Levi - he spoke to me, very civil and as tho he knew he had a PLACE in a white bar - some Irish piece was on TV - "Young Cassidy" -- full of Revolution and homey views, quite authentic sets I thought, tho' I knew nothing of the story. So out on the street again and to home. Muhrer sent a brief note - said they had "discovered" two short stories of mine and would consider them -- he promised to write anon, which he may do, or may not. did you like the reprint of my ART(ists) CAN BE FUN(ny)? Thought they might have given the old NEWS a by-line, but what's done is done and I am not one to cry over spilt by-lines - Right?
Yrs in the brew (3.2). Jack II. Sent a copy of FOOLKILLER to Sterling A. Brown - he appreciated it. in left margin: George Via is a plumber-neighbor of ours - with a passel of kids and a mousey wife.
