I have here a [Dostoevsky] of yours and there is missing your copy of Mid American Chants which disappeared as mysteriously as my own copy of Winesburg, & which I have been hoping against hope would appear again. We must have some friend fond even unto stealing of your works! At any rate I intend of course to replace the book if it does not turn up. I am quite positive the others were returned to you -- some, you remember, to New York while you were there. The two volumes of The Seven Arts were sent to New York as well. Have you the list which I returned to you? I never worked off anything that was not packed to send, under my own eye. As soon as I can locate things in the mess I'll look up my own list and se if I can't straighten it out. If any are really gone I'll feel very miserable about it and of course I'll make it good. If only unclear not first editions!
