March 24th 1857 My dear good Abby I told you in my letter last night that I expected to leave here this P.M., but I did not get through with my business in time. I have just got through with my business. It is 9.15 P.M., I have settled up quite a number of accounts & collected 4871 53/100 dollars to day. I had a good nights rest last night & shall have another good nights rest to night as the car starts at 9 to morrow morning. I shall probably reach La Porte day after tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. I am very impatient to get back for I expect to find a good loving letter there from my own dear good Abby. I don't know what I shall do if I am disappointed, It will then be 26 days since the date of the last one I received from you. So that if one had been miscarried another will surely be there. It makes me feel very sad not to get letters from you when I expect them. You have written me so frequently of late, that I miss these
