January 23, 1986 Dear Mr. Conroy,

I have just finished reading "The Disinherited" and want to thank you for making this Christmas gift from my parents very special. Your inscriptions meant a lot to me and to them.
Though your stories took place many years ago, I couldn't help but think that so much of what you wrote about is still true today. Washington, D.C. has a large population of "the Disinherited..." perhaps no larger than other areas, but certainly more visible...and I couldn't help but think of them while reading your book.
I will be making my annual trek to Moberly this summer and plan on making dear old Dad take me on a Monkey Nest tour. It's a visit I look forward to.
Again, thank you for your kind words.

Sincerely, Susan Carter
