Brother Frederic

   My dear Comrade.
Bereft I feel at the announcement

of your leaving.

And I am free, as you are not, to question

the loss and the gain of it - to the Cause of the Common Welfare. Whatever Detroit's "Executive deanship" may gain, irreparable is the loss Chicago and the Middle West Suffered in the Withdrawal of your personal influence - operating on the Working-Capital accumulated during 21 years of outstanding public service. That service, indeed, will long continue to earn returns to us all. And no one who takes your place here can start where you leave, or carry-on as you did without serving as long as you have. So, much of the gain well earned through your score of years here will be missed, nowunderlined when never so needed! Such is the horoscope cast from this "Church on the Gate",
