I recognize and dare not disobey the voice of God. Let me assure you however, as I already have the people of the Fourth church and my associates in the Board of Trustees and Faculty of the Hartford Seminary, that no other opportunity which I can conceive of could I have been led to think it my duty to leave the field for [unclear]they afford me, and at so great wide [I am of heart?] as it costs to sever relationships such as identity my very life with church, seminary and city.

This fact may also attest the unreserved confidence I [unclear] in the Board of Trustees and their Executive Committee, to whose loyalty to the Kingdom I now implicitly trust, my own service in it and all my ministry and brotherhood among men. That is reciprocal confidence may never be [unclear] I accompany my acceptance which is to take effect Oct 1 [1893?] with a statement of my understanding of the assurance which have been minor factors of my decision.
