Dear Reds and Arthur -

    If you are in the boat this winter I hope it is not as cool as it is here. A heavy snow storm lasting three days - deep snow over all the mountains, the fields white.
    I have at last got through the revisions of the long book on which I worked all winter and am into another now. A damn nice difficult elusive theme that I may pull off and may not.
    One of the most exciting books I've read for years is Cane by Jean Toomer - a negress. Just the feeling of the south
    Confidentially I hope to be back in the south in the late spring -  to New Orleans perhaps. May put in the summer there. It will be hot as hell but great stuff. If you remember we talked once of going drifting
