typeface 17 December 1972 Dear Gladys & Jack, No cards this year. I'm not up to my annual trip to the National Gallery in Dublin for a stack of madonnas, I've got springs of cowardice which have barely been tapped. I went back ot the U.S. this summer on family business, and every plane was certainly an ordeal. The only ones who didn't [underlined] search everywhere were Aer Lingus in Dublin, and I gather that that has since been rectified. Our greengrocer, a very respectable looking woman, even had her hair searched. Nothing happens here, which in some ways is just as well. Our eldest has, at 25, returned to college, her sophomore year, this time at the U. of Mass in Boston. The other four are here, waiting for some sort of sign in the skies to indicate the way, I gather. Jim is working, so non-stop that he said he wouldn't be able to get any cards out at all this year, so I am stepping into the breach. I hope things are fine in Moberly, Mo, whatever they are in the rest of the world. Maybe you have got it made. (We had until a few years ago. Greystones is getting elephantiasis.) Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. signed Betty
