December 16, 1943 Dear Jack -

   Christmas rolls around again, bourgeois holiday that it is, but it has some compensations.  For instance, it stirs me into getting a few notes out thanking my friends for the nice things they've done for me during the past year.  It's helped me over the rough spots and helped me to brave the cold cruel world.
   I suppose you still hold the fort at Consolidated Publisher's [sic] and teach occasionally at Lincoln School.  My drafting course keeps me so occupied that I don't even get around to Washington Blvd. for an occasional lecture.  I'm working as a floral designer at a west side shop and between 50 to 60 hours of work a week, 15 hours of school I find my time
