Sept. 26, 1914. Ducky Marder: I suppose you are on your way to the cousins' now so I will address this accordingly. Thursday afternoon I went out to 66th St and Union Ave. to see Bob (the printer's) wife. She is a very nice Scotch girl and I enjoyed my visit with her. She expects to be confined in January. I met her old grandfather, a nice old Scotchman with white hair and beard. I enjoyed hearing him talk. He has a very marked brogue, says, "Do ye, noo"? "bairn" "How is all wid ye"? etc. Yesterday I made crabapple jelly as Dr. Zeh brought home half a bushel of crabs. They were very nice and I got a little over two quarts. It takes a good many apples to make just a little jelly, I find. I was obliged to use two kettles besides the dish pan to cook them in and they got burned a little, which didn't impart a very good flavor to the jelly. I served some up at supper and Dr. Zeh and Max were both satisfied with it, so I guess it will do. Hope next time to do better.
