July 29, 1914. Precious Mummie: Ralph met us after a wait of an hour and a half. We had gone up to the main street to get a bite to eat and we saw him driving past the lunchroom window. Got into the wagon when our breakfast was eaten and drove over to a drygoods store where I purchased some elastic and clasps. I gloat over my bathing suit frequently. It is a lovely present and you were so good to hurry on it and let me take it with me. The weather is lovely. We had a pleasant drive out to Nellie Zay's place. It is a beautiful country around here. Not as I anticipated at all. True, there are no trees near the house but there are many of them in reach of the eye.
