Dear Sherwood: Just delivered another chapter of Ves Walmsley to the typist -- met Herman Schuchert (Jeremy Lane now) and had two drinks and lunch with him. First time I had seen Herman since last winter. He had just sent manuscript of his ninth book to his agent. Only two have been published "Yellow Men Sleep" and one other: "Light Stuff" he says, I've never read any of his work. He still has great hopes of being published. Says he can't do anything serious -- and I do not think he can. But he pounds away -- four hours at the typewriter most every evening. Max Grove's had a hell of a time. Worked for a while on the night shift of a lumber factory at South Bend. His baby died suddenly last week, and he and Shirley are knocked out. Bill Hollingsworth's back in town -- married -- and is making money doing work for a commercial art studio. I saw Vaughn yesterday at lunch. He's working in
