Marco was much interested in the reference to Earl Anderson in one of your recent letters. I told him about it while we were canvassing the old days, in a little rest at the Chicago Beach. He remembers Earl much better than I. Said he tried copy work at Critchfields before I came to Chicago I think I only met him once or twice. Marco called me up for your address yesterday, so I supposed you have a letter from him. I hope Earl has recovered.

I had lunch at the Dill Pickle with Laelah a few days ago. Apparently life is not going so well with her. She is much downcast over her failure to become pregnant. She had an operation last winter that she fears makes a child impossible . . . There's a passion for a child! She'd go through anything for one. I suspect she is right about the operation. I told her that she hadnt made assurance doubly sure. She should try fertilization from a younger source.

She seems to fit into the Dill Pickle life -- but her job in charge of Jacks print-shop is discouraging. What a story!

Your remarks about carrying a man across the Niagara well illustrate my experience -- also your comment on undertaking a novel about a woman. Ive learned some
